It’s Summer in the South. It’s hot. It’s humid. Those are facts every runner has to deal with. Running inside on a treadmill is an option, but 5k’s don’t happen inside, so what are you gonna do?

  • Run early in the morning or late in the evening
  • Wear lightweight, breathable clothes
  • Stay hydrated
  • Get sprayed with squirt guns

That last one happened to me last weekend and I highly recommend it!

Five Star’s Father’s Day Blast N’ Dash was indeed a blast! In addition to really cute t-shirts, the race fee included a squirt gun and water refills. Since it was Father’s Day, there were lots of families in attendance and you know how kids love to squirt adults with water. There were plenty of water battles along the course!

I opted not to carry a squirt gun with me during the race. I tried it a couple of years ago and, let’s just say, I’m not one that can run and chew gum at the same time! What I did enjoy, however, was getting squirted by passerby’s. It felt great getting cooled off from the heat and humidity of a Georgia June morning.

My favorite part was toward the end of the course where you make the turn for the Finish Line. There were folks on both sides squirting cascades of water to run through while cheering you on to the end. That running camaraderie is the best!

If you have the opportunity to participate in a race, in the South, in the summer, that involves water…By all means, take advantage of it. You won’t be sorry!

Happy Running & Stay Cool!
